Are you aware of common signs and symptoms of any abnormalities with your gums? If you noticed that your gums are looking irregular or they feel tender to the touch, it could be a sign of ongoing oral health conditions such as gum disease. Gum disease, also frequently referred to as periodontal disease, is a condition in which your gum tissues have become infected. In its early stages, known as gingivitis, various symptoms may arise.

If you notice that your gums are routinely bleeding regularly and often whether by eating or simply by brushing and flossing, it could be a sign of gingivitis. Furthermore, look for visual clues such as excessive redness and swelling of your gums and the frequent occurrence of bad breath.

Be aware that gingivitis often has several causes. If you have plaque buildup in your mouth as a result of poor oral hygiene, it can give rise to gingivitis. It can also result from bad habits such as smoking or chewing tobacco, genetic predispositions, diabetes and a pregnancy.
